Week 5 in opponents -

Northwestern up 10-0 on Minnesota. Neither offense is doing terribly well, as you might imagine.

Well, it's Minnesota, which isn't Indiana, but close.

NW chugging along, now up 16-0.
Re: Week 5 in opponents -

20-0, NW.
Re: Week 5 in opponents -

NW up 27-0 early in the fourth quarter. Minnesota has...130 yards. Maybe Northwestern is just really, really good at defense.

There was never any question whether Northwestern was good at defense. How many reallys go in there was at issue.

Minnesota's offense is really awful

Northwestern's D is for real. 35 points in 5 games including one Top 25 team (Stanford) and another that will likely find itself there with a win today (Duke).
Next is put up or shut up time in the Big House. I will be rooting against Harbs big time

Michigan's D is also for real. They're shutting out their second straight opponent. The NW-UM score may be in the single digits, with the winner scoring on a pick-six.

Beat me to it.
Going into the week, the #3 (NU) and #4 (UM) scoring defenses in the country. Also #3 (UM) and #13 (NU) total defense yds/play.
Those rankings are only going to get better after today's shut outs.

The O/U for Northwestern at Michigan might be 20. I'm sure a lot of people would take the under.

Maryland is terrible. Wins vs. Richmond, USF. Losses to WVU and...wait for it...Bowling Green.
I just read through the entire play-by-play of the UMich-MD game. It's a comedy of errors. Michigan's D might be very legit, but it's hard to tell when they're defending against an offense that a) sports the record as mentioned above, and b) is as inept as the play-by-play makes them seem.Â
Conversely, Michigan's scores were all results of short fields, singularly explosive plays, or a combination of the two. The drive charts for both offenses would look ugly if I could find any. Michigan shanked an additional FG and then also punted on 4th down from the Maryland 35yd line (early in 4Q, up 21-0). Michigan QB Jake Rudock was 16-32 for 180yds, 1 TD, and 1 int. Not the hallmark of a great passing offense. Their top rusher carried 13 times for 68 yds and a TD (long of 20, score was 2nd-and-goal from the 1 yd line).
Michigan's offense is bad, and their defense could be good, but this game against Maryland is a superb performance against a terrible offense...caveat emptor.

Wazzu 14, Cal 7, with 6:30 to go in the first half.

Wazzu 21-7 now on QB run with a little push from his teammates, not called. Almost half time.

I will stop posting updates after this. 2 minutes enough for Goff to score TD (missed PAT). 21-13. 34 secs to half.
Re: Week 5 in opponents -

Would be awesome for kal to lose on that missed PAT...and for the Coug QB to walk around on the field mouthing "holy f***"...
tOSU is up 13-10 over Indiana and has the ball. They were previously down 6-10 at the half.
FSU is up 24-10 with about 16:29 of game left and has the ball.Â
We need at least two undefeated teams ahead of us to go down before the end of the season (and for Stanford to win out).

If Stanford wins out it'd be very surprising to miss the playoff. Scoreboard watching of that sort should be the furthest thing from fans' minds.
(Especially since...we're probably not winning out.)

Kal and Cougs have only 63 yards rushing combined after almost 3 quarters.
Re: Week 5 in opponents -

Well, that was... Interesting.
Facing third and four from just outside field goal range, Cal goes pass: incomplete, then goes for it on fourth down and Godd completes a pass for -3 yards.
